The post-unification situation led to two kinds of boundaries in Magdeburg-South: “Linear Boundaries” and “Area Boundaries.” |

CONCEPT: Frugal solutions to modify boundaries. |
|

GOAL: Providing interconnections between living environments by means of boundaries. |
|
|
LINEAR BOUNDARIES: They are mainly walls and fences. They are solid obstacles for people. This could be named as non see-through and see-through boundaries. They could be modified to provide visibility, continuity, human scale, ecological continuity, and interest points. |

AREA BOUNDARIES: They are mainly abandoned former industrial areas with negative visual impact. They could be modified as observation points to perceive interconnection with the environment. Also, to provide time solution, as some pieces of them could be used as access corridors. |

Proposal to Owners of Former Industrial Areas: “Give us land from your property; we can clean up some of your land. Therefore, we could have shortcuts or small pieces for living with our surrounding area by your permission. We will not pay you but your land value will increase by economical means and popularity.” Who Pays? Community, promoters (companies, research centers) and area owners Later: If the owner wants area back? |
