INTRODUCTION

The change of paradigm in the Stadtlandschaft of Magdeburg has a very noticeable effect on people’s lives and their everyday environment. Spaces which once had a high value for the community and individuals are now abandoned. Remaining values of use need to be localized and strengthened, new ones introduced according to the present process of shrinking in the Stadtlandschaft and the needs of the people in Magdeburg.

IMPORTANCE OF BOUNDARIES

Boundaries can separate and direct movements and therefore become the most essential element shaping the topography of Interconnections. Our team started focusing on the topic because of the importance of boundaries to the urban fabric and the number of potentials they have.

ANALYIS: BOUNDARIES, EDGES, SEAMS

In our analysis it became obvious that the planner has to distinguish between various terms closely related to the topic of boundaries. The most important elements shaping the topography of interconnections are boundaries, edges and seams.

ANALYIS: USER GROUPS

Over the course of the project it also became obvious that the experience of boundaries strongly relates to the user group. A boundary for one person might have a high value of use for the other.

GOAL

Our overall goal is to create a versatile topography of interconnections relating to peoples’ needs and values. Providing 'new places’ by means of changing and adjusting of tha existing structural situation.

CONCEPT

Facilitating the high values of boundaries on a multilevel scale. Bringing possibility of associating with and reorganizing the space in the surrounding.
